Video introduction

and here is a short film about the course.

Participants will deepen their understanding through action research, reading, reflection, dialogue, and the undertaking of transformational change. The course consists of a number of development days, interwoven by ongoing work in settings and continuing group reflections. Here is a downloadable document about it.

"For me, the whole course, and especially my classroom enquiry, were profound experiences; through active listening, through attentive, respectful interactions, I saw so much learning. The Cambridge Primary Review highlights 'well-being, engagement, empowerment and autonomy' as key values: my own small-scale enquiry has convinced me that these are not just fine words on a page but practical possibilities for all educators and their children."

Developing Environments of Enquiry is centred on valuing children as competent, sociable, imaginative and expressive learners. it aims to develop pedagogical frameworks that focus on children's fascinations and enquiries in relationship with others using many expressive languages. It is addionally informed by the experiences of colleagues in Reggio Emilia whose early childhood centres are built upon and embody such an approach. Sightlines Initiative offers bespoke courses to suit your particular requirements. Environments of Enquiry in the Primary Years - a collaborative project with educators from Reggio

The Drama of Sound

London ReFocus Open Meeting

News from Derby
Early in March, at the annual conference for nursery staff in Derby, a group of educators presented their work. For most it was the first time they had ever stood up and talked about their work to others and it was a huge success.

The work began nearly a year ago when the heads of the city's nursery schools, along with some of their staff, joined Sightlines Initiative's study tour to Reggio Emilia in 2013. Enthused and invigorated by what they saw, the heads put together a group of staff to work on a joint project about the city that would put into practice some of the things that had so inspired them in Italy.

Developing Environments of Enquiry – in the Primary Years

'An environment which listens': a DEoE project with Reggio Children

Following various discussions following the November conference, we are developing a project proposal which will also involve the participation of Reggio Children. We will be seeking participation from Primary settings in which Reception or Key Stage 1 Years are particularly keen to take the leap of developing reflective pedagogy. We know it is possible! We are also interested in situations where there is the potential for these settings to liaise with 'feeder' early years settings which are already strongly engaged in developing co-constructive practice. Reggio Children are also interested in this because they are involved in liaising with Primary Schools in the City of Reggio about 'developing a pedagogy which listens'. Tiziana Filippini is leading this liaison, and will, we hope, be working on this with us. There are some further details to discuss, but we hope to be ready to present invitations to participate at the end of April.

The Drama of Sound

We invite you to bring the Drama of Sound project into your setting. This is an opportunity to develop skills in working creatively with music and dance. We are looking for educators, musicians and others who would like to work with children's music and movement ideas, with online support and exchange. The project will take place until July 2014. Please click on this link for more information, and contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in taking part. It will be a very exciting project! Working with Children's Theories: Moving between playful exploration and critical thinking
29th November 2014, London

Learning from experiences of educators in the preschools of Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, this national day conference will explore how we can work with children's own theories and questions. It will include direct participation of pedagogues of Reggio Emilia.
